Less activeness is a major sign of cat depression. A healthy cat is very active and likes to play, hunting, jumping. But a depressed cat has less energy and they have no interest in anything. That’s why they ignore playing, hunting and become less active. If you notice that your cat is absent in regular playing time and mealtime or sleeping more. It indicates that your cat has depression or any health problem.
Lack of Hunger
You can easily understand cat depression by their food habit. A healthy cat will have a good appetite. A healthy cat needs food several time in a day. If you give them excess food they never refuse that. Though healthy cats are always active but at meal time they are more active and excited. Many cats circle around your legs in mealtime. But if a cat has depression then they have no interest in food. They gradually lose their hunger and start avoiding food. In meal time they avoid the food or eat a little. If you find that your cat avoids the food then it indicates that something is going wrong with your cat.
Cats meow is very common all the day. Generally, cats are meow when they communicate with others or they need somethings. They also meow when they are playing. But a depressed cat meows excessively and loud without any reason. They also loudly meow when they stay alone or nobody in the home. Cats are very gentle and like to be clean. But if you find dirt it hair coat, dandruff, oil, a messy booty. This will indicate that your cat is depressed. Because when a cat has some depression then they stop grooming. On the other side, some depressed cat may over-groom as like irritated skin, leaving bald patches, open wounds etc. This type of under or over grooming is dangerous for the cat. So they need immediate health check-up.
