Bombay is an active and curious cat who loves people attention and want to involve in everything that you do. This smart cat loves to play with family members and other pets. They have no complain to stay with children and other pets in the same home. They easily adjusted themselves in any home environment. –Though they are muscular and medium-size cat but when you pick them up you will find that they are heftier than they look.
–They get the early sexual maturity, sometimes at only five months.
–Their nickname is “ the patent-leather kid with the new-penny eyes.”

History

Nikki Horner a breeder from Louisville, who was created the Bombay cat breed. She was starting to develop this breed in 1958. She wanted to creat a breed that was very similar to a miniature black panther. Unfortunately she did not reach her goal in first time but she started it again and finally in 1965 she was successfully created the breed.

Cat Fanciers’ Association (CFA) officially accepted the Bombay cat breed for registration in 1970. The International Cat Association (TICA) recognized them in 1979.

The Bombay cat is very friendly, active intelligent and affectionate. Many people belive that if a Bombay cat crosses your path it will be your good fortune. They are very calm nature cat who adapts well to any type of home environment. They have no objection to living with dogs and other pets in the same home. The affectionate Bombay cat loves people company and wants people attention. Some Bombay can be talkative with you if you are a lucky person. Most of them will talk with their people in a distinctive but not rough voice.

Younger Bombay cats are very curious and easily adapt to change. You often find them sitting beside the window. Because they can easily observe the outside world by sitting on the window. They have a good jumping and climbing ability

Bombay cats are very intelligent. They easily learn tricks and able to walk on a leash. Challenge their brain and providing them puzzle toys. They are very adjustable with children and other pet including cat-friendly dogs.

It is very easy work for an owner to entertain them. Though they love to play with toys but a plastic bottle or paper sack will also give them the same pleasure. They love to fall his body across the newspaper when you read it and jump on your lap.

Children And Other Pets

Bombay cat is the perfect choice for a family, especially for children. Because are outgoing natured and very playful. They love children’s attention who treat them friendly and politely. They never have any problem with other pets and cat-friendly dog. Bombay cat loves to go outside with children and enjoy the playing time.

Health

Though Bombay cats are commonly healthy ‘craniofacial defect‘ is seen in Burmese cat has also been seen in Bombay cat. The ‘craniofacial defect’ abnormalcy is seen occasionally in the newborn kittens. So the breeders must be awaked that the breed does not carry the gene for the defect. Both mixed-breed cats and pedigreed cats have health problems which are genetic in nature. If any breeder claims that his breed has no genetic or health problems then you must understand that he is lying with you or he has no knowledge about the breed.

Only buy those kittens whose parents have been tested for HCM. HCM ( Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy) is the most common heart disease in cats which causes heart failure, paralysis of hind legs and sudden death. This disease is usually termed as a “silent killer” because it is not so easy to diagnose. HCM thickening the wall of the heart. This stiffens the walls of the heart, restricting blood flow. It may cause to sudden heart failure. Buy from those breeders who offer you a written health guarantee.

Obesity, is one of the common health problem of this breed. Always beware for this disease and take necessary step against this.

Breathing difficulties and excessive tearing of the eyes are also affected by this breed.

Their short-haired coat is easy to groom. Brush their coat weekly to remove the dead hair and it will also help them to distribute the skin oil. Always use a rubber curry brush because they feel massagelike when it goes over their coat.

Brush the teeth to save them from the periodontal disease and always try to use a vet authorized pet toothpaste. If you find dirty things inside the ears then clean it very carefully but you must use a perfect ear cleaner. Cut their nail when necessary. Corner of the eyes should be wiped. If possible every month check their health in your vet.

Always Keep their litter box clean other wise they start using other places.
At the age of 6 to 9 months plan to spay for Bombay. Because generally they get sexual maturity at 5 months of age.

Always try to keep them indoor to protect them from other wild animals and diseases.

For their better growth and health insure proper nutrients. Their house should be kept clean to prevent disease.
